What I wouldn't give to visit a church with a leader like Spurgeon instead of these panty-waist, afraid to offend, impotent pastors heading up mega-churches these days- afraid to teach the entirety of the Bible for fear of offending and driving away little profit centers...err people. Charles Haddon Spurgeon didn't say what you wanted to hear- he gave the Word and all of it!
Spurgeon was not relevant, he was revolutionary- as the Word of God truly is.
It is so refreshing to read basic Christian principles instead of the feel good prosperity gospel often taught in today's readings
I highly recommend this book to a busy culture that doesn't often have time to sit down and read the works of Spurgeon which, in spite of being worth the time spent, take up a chunk of a busy 21st century reader's time. The compiler of this book has meticulously mined the wisdom of many of Spurgeon's work and sermons, and made a delightful, quick read that will draw many contemporaries to further explore the writings of this eloquent man of God from the nineteenth century.
True Spurgeon love for Christ. The "Prince of Preachers " does not fail to bring Jesus to our hearts. If you have a heart of stone, Spurgeon will bring it to flesh, not by his doing but how he teaches Christ and Him crucified! The power of the Lord's spirit on him brings fourth the words to express the divine, things that were given him to utter are often profound and beautiful coming from his lips.
I have found myself, immersed in this book. It is very inspirational, and I really think I would like to download all of Spurgeon's sermons, so will be looking to do that in the very near future.
A very straight forward presentation of the gospel of Jesus Christ on Christian held beliefs, hope and salvation. Written in the 1800’s but still relevant in today’s world. One of the great preachers and servant of God.
Spurgeon was a preacher filled by the Holy Spirit. He brought up some things I had never heard nor thought of. My prayer is that many people read this book and may you all be filled with the Holy Spirit.
